Summary: HB 112 requires photo Identification, specifically a driver’s license, a non-driver identification card, a U.S. Passport, or a military identification card, to be eligible to vote in Delaware elections. Simultaneously, non-driver identification cards will be easier to obtain.

Analysis: HB 112 was constructed to protect the integrity of Delaware elections. Valid Identification is vital for our republic to operate as our founders intended. Americans alone should have a say in who leads their nation. Therefore, to be sure of this policy of common sense, voters in the state of Delaware will be identified through valid photo identification supplied by our very own government.

To achieve this purpose, HB 112 gives easier access to obtain a valid form of photo identification. This bill will make non-driver identification cards free, and their 8-year renewals will be only $20, as opposed to $40. Thus, the standard to ensure elections are safe is upheld while making sure all people are given easy access to attain the means necessary to vote.

While HB 112 does not directly include issues of family, life, education, or religious freedom, this bill does have direct consequences. How can we build a healthy culture in politics if our foundation, the ballot box, is even uncertain? To achieve policies that protect family, life, education, and religious freedom, our elections must be accurate.

Good stewardship of government includes safeguarding the integrity of its processes, legitimate elections being one of them. The results of each election are crucial, as those chosen to represent our constitutional republic are tasked with the duty of upholding it. Any advocacy for life, marriage, family, and religious freedom in public policy, must not forsake the processes that are responsible for creating and maintaining those policies.
