The assisted suicide battle in Delaware is not over.
Yes, Governor Meyer signed the bill into law this May, after a decade of debate and resistance in the legislature. But legislative action is not the only avenue for accountability.
We still have the court system.
A coalition of groups have been working behind the scenes to challenge the law in court. The first of those lawsuits was decided this week when a federal judge dismissed the petition to delay the bill’s enactment date. As a result, legalized assisted suicide is still scheduled to go into effect on January 1st, 2026.
The ruling, however, does not erase the serious concerns raised or the lessons learned.
The experience of our neighbor, Canada, remains a sobering warning. Assisted suicide has NOT delivered compassionate care, but instead revealed major TRUTHS that simply cannot be ignored:
- Killing is not healthcare!
- Suicide pills are not painless!
- Fraud and discrimination cannot be legislated away!
These are the lessons our team exposed and brought before Delaware lawmakers in the 2025 legislature with powerfully coordinated testimony from physicians, individuals with disabilities, and engaged members of the public.
As we enter 2026, we remember the words of one theologian:
“If in 100 years Christians are known as those who do not kill their children or their elderly, we would have been doing something right.”
