Summary: An integration of financial literacy into core high school curriculum. This comprehensive approach
Analysis: The Equity and Inclusion in Financial Literacy for All High School Students in Delaware Act, makes financial literacy a required course for high school students across the state. Starting with the class of 2026–2027, all students will need to pass a ½-credit financial literacy class in order to graduate.
All high schools within any given district (including charter schools) will now have to teach a financial literacy course. The course will count toward the social studies credits needed to graduate.
HB 203 also provides that professional development must also be available for training educators on to fulfill this requirement. Schools are encouraged to partner with local businesses or organizations. These partners are open to sponsor events, offer scholarships, or help with teaching.
Because of studies that show that learning about money early can greatly benefit a person within their lifetime, financial literacy will help to give every student a better chance at long-term success in life.
