This past weekend, Delaware held a special election at the top of the state to fill two Senate vacancies.
You may have already heard or felt the discouragement with the results. In both Senate districts, the conservative candidate did not win.
The disappointment is understandable. The new Senators in Districts 1 and 5 will play a key role in the outcome of crucial bills, like legalized assisted suicide or radical pro-abortion constitutional amendments.
However, there’s hope in the voter results – and a clear call to action.
Hope, and a Clear Path Forward
The voter results showed that the conservative candidates’ loss wasn’t from lack of registered voters. Instead, they lost because of extremely low voter turnout. Less than 20% of registered voters went to the polls last week!
What does this tell us? Where’s the hope? 🤨
This means there are many likeminded conservatives in our state, even in progressive New Castle County! They simply do not yet understand the impact of their involvement in local elections like these on the entire state.
That’s where you and I come in. Ask yourself: are your churches, neighbors, family and friends aware of what’s at stake in our state? Do they understand that stewardship of government is not optional – it is essential?
The time is now! Here are practical ways that you can prepare your sphere of influence for future opportunities to steward government well.
1. Bring guests with you to The Summit.
The summit is where Delaware leaders and people of influence are equipped for their role in this unique cultural moment. Invite your like-minded family, friends, co-workers, and church leadership to come with you to the Summit on May 1st.

2. Host a biblical stewardship of government class.
A) Host a biblical citizenship course at your house, through our partner organization Patriot Academy.
B) Bring the DFPC team’s Faith and the Ballot course to your church.
Both give practical ways for stewarding your local government from a biblical worldview.

3. Is your church praying for your elected officials, by name?
We are commanded to pray, consistently and earnestly, for our leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
Imagine if each elected official had an army of prayer warriors in churches from their district, specifically praying for them, by name, on a weekly basis?

Are You Feeling It?
More than ever, people around us are realizing the consequences of rejecting God’s design for human flourishing, and looking for solutions.
The national election taught us that results do not happen overnight. But over time, adversity cures apathy, and causes people to crave leadership.
People who walk in courage, and stay committed for the long-term – that is the hope for Delaware.
People like DFPC member Brent Burdge, who ran not once, but twice in his district – with tenacity and grit, and the full support and dedicated work of his wife.
People like DFPC members who devoted their time to campaign in this special election.
People like those who did cast their vote last weekend.
Your moment will come also. How you steward the time, resources and influences you have right now will shape that moment.
Stay connected, alert, and equipped for action. Persevere; don’t grow weary. And steward your sphere of influence well.
Remember – one person, equipped and strategically placed, will take territory!
