Giving Thanks

There was a time when the average person didn’t know how to read, and a single book would cost a fortune.

There are places where children walk miles to fetch a pail of tea-colored water for their families.

There are people who, as we speak, are trapped in oppressive regimes, consumed by starvation, or living in fear of arbitrary torture and execution.

It is easy to forget how much we have to be thankful for in this country, and to spend our days complaining about what we wish was different.

The Thanksgiving season is our opportunity to pause and remember, with gratitude, the privilege we have to live in the United States.

Here are tips for having life-giving, edifying fellowship and conversation this Thanksgiving.

✅ Be thankful. When the conversation turns negative, find ways to redirect the mood toward gratitude.

"Do all things without complaining or arguing...in everything, give thanks..."

✅ Ask strategic questions. When family or friends make claims or statements you know to be false, don’t feel pressure to respond right away. Instead, ask questions. Here are two great videos on how to have strategic, conflict-free conversations that advance truth.

✅ Pray together. Pray for those less fortunate than you. Pray in thanksgiving for the blessings in your life. Pray for each other and for the trials that you are experiencing.

Be intentional about guiding the conversation toward gratitude this week, and advancing truth in the process.

On behalf of the DFPC Team, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!

As we come to the end of the year, would you consider supporting DFPC with your gift today?
