In 2024, we saw how to fight for life in a state obsessed with abortion.
Obsession is a strong but appropriate description for the flood of laws passed in Delaware to force taxpayers to fund abortions, target pregnancy care centers, expand who can perform abortions in Delaware, and offer the abortion pill by mail.
Our newly elected legislators are endorsed by organizations committed to the abortion agenda, as though it were a religious sacrament.
2024 was the first year in Delaware history that a statewide candidate – our new Lt. Governor, Kyle Evans Gay – ran on abortion access as the core of her platform.
Only prayer and the faithfulness of Christ-followers can dismantle this obsession. That’s exactly what we saw happen this year.
The Power of Prayer and Presence.
When Planned Parenthood opened a state-of-the-art surgical center in the middle of Seaford, everyday pro-life folks chose not to stay silent and apathetic, but to pray together every time the doors of the clinic were open.
Since the clinic first opened in 2021, our trained sidewalk advocates have stood in front of the medical complex in every kind of weather, committed to outnumbering the clinic staff.
These sidewalk advocates were always equipped to share life giving options to any client who came their way. Their ministry included the abortion workers also – they were early and in position to greet the staff as they pulled into the medical complex. The sidewalk advocates have prayed for each of these workers and held signs with messages meant specifically for them.
The Seaford Planned Parenthood has now been closed for four months! All traffic has been routed to Dover, Newark, and Wilmington, where consistent prayer and increased presence is needed.
As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. Genesis 50:20
Pregnancy Care Centers unite after being targeted.
“Each pregnancy center was operating on their own before SB300 brought us together in beautiful and strong unity. I’m so grateful for the help of DFPC in getting us ready to testify and standing with us through the entire process.” Lilybeth Otero, director of Delaware’s newest pregnancy care center, Her Care Clinic, in Seaford Delaware
Senate Bill 300, sponsored by our current Lt. Governor and ultimately signed into law by Governor Carney, was a targeted assault on the work of pregnancy centers.
SB 300 mirrors the law that was struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court in NIFLA v Becerra (2018). Nandi Randolph, DFPC’s Policy Analyst, gave powerful testimony warning the sponsors that if passed, the law would invite a legal challenge. With the help of DFPC’s close allies at Alliance Defending Freedom, all four centers will be suing the state of Delaware in 2025!🔥
Our efforts were united and multiplied this year thanks to the support of so many of you standing with us. Remember, the challenges to come are opportunities to steward, opportunities to have needed conversations, to inform and equip, and speak the truth boldly.
No matter what comes, we will continue to present a biblical worldview of life, because rebuilding a culture of life and advancing truth is core to our mission – it’s who we are.
Your life-giving gift today will keep us in position to rebuild a culture of life and fight this abortion obsessed agenda in our state.
Let’s not forget that this happened in 2024…
Delaware’s outgoing Governor Carney vetoed Assisted Suicide!
This year, HB 140, the bill to legalize assisted suicide in Delaware, passed both the House and Senate by one vote.
DFPC Policy Analyst Nandi Randolph coordinated testimony with policy experts and medical professionals who testified to the fraud, experimental nature of the suicide drugs, and the overall devastating effect of legalized assisted suicide on the medical system.
Many of these experts, as well as hundreds of individuals across Delaware, sent comments to the Governor. Ultimately, to our surprise, Governor Carney in one of his last acts as Governor decided to veto HB 140!
“I still don’t believe a firm consensus has been reached on what is a very difficult issue – in Delaware or nationally. Last year, the American Medical Association reaffirmed its view that physician-assisted suicide is ‘fundamentally incompatible with the physician’s role as healer.’ And although I understand not everyone shares my views, I am fundamentally and morally opposed to state law enabling someone, even under tragic and painful circumstances, to take their own life.” – Governor Carney
The bill’s main sponsor, retiring legislator Paul Baumbach, has introduced this bill every legislative session for the past decade. The fight is not over – there are other legislators who are committed to bringing HB 140 back in 2025.
Continue to pray that our legislators will come to understand that our shared love for human rights is dependent on a universal, uncompromising respect for the sanctity of human life.
