Marriage redefinition amendment fails by bipartisan vote!

Senate Bill 100 would automatically protect the legislature’s definition of marriage – and any future redefinition – as a right in the state Constitution.

That’s a problem. Just last year, there was a bill in the Delaware House to recognize marriage between first cousins! And who knows what new definition will come 5 or 10 years from now.

Good news: Senate Bill 100 failed this week!

As a Constitutional Amendment, SB 100 required a 2/3 to pass in both the Senate and the House. It was defeated in the House because not one Republican voted yes, and they were joined by two Democrats.

***Most of the dissenting Representatives went “not voting,” but there were two decisive NO votes – Republican Representative Bryan Shupe, and Democrat Representative Josue Ortega.

Here is Representative Ortega’s statement explaining his no vote:

It matters when you write to your legislators. Your comments not only inform and advance the truth to legislators with an opposing worldview; they also encourage and affirm those who stand firm, despite immense pressure.

Senate Bill 100 is still live until June 30th. The bill sponsor changed her yes vote to “no” to give herself a procedural way forward to bring the bill back, according to House Rules.

In order to bring this bill back up with only two legislative days left, there will be an intense amount of pressure behind the scenes on those who didn’t vote for it. The bullying is fierce toward those who dare to stand up to the insatiable LGBTQ+ agenda.

Here's what you can do:

1) Continue to pray.

Pastors and churches across the state have been united in prayer regarding SB 100, as well as SB 5, which would enshrine unlimited abortion in the Constitution. Pray for the legislators who did not support the bill this week to continue to stand in courage, and pray also for the defeat of the horrific SB 5.

2) Please help us thank the legislators who did not vote for SB 100. Their stand deserves acknowledgement.
