We hardly ever see a significant policy win in Delaware that affirms the value of human life and the sanctity of the family. Delaware culture has a huge need for hearts and minds to be changed.
This is why this moment is so significant. After passing both the House and the Senate by one vote, HB 140, the bill to legalize assisted suicide, was vetoed by the governor!
The team at DFPC is praising the Lord for this major victory!
We are thanking God for the hundreds of comments that were sent to the governor and legislators, asking them to oppose legalized assisted suicide.
We are thanking God for the doctors and medical professionals who boldly testified and sent letters to the Governor.
We are thanking God that the Governor had the courage to veto HB 140!

“I still don’t believe a firm consensus has been reached on what is a very difficult issue – in Delaware or nationally. Last year, the American Medical Association reaffirmed its view that physician-assisted suicide is ‘fundamentally incompatible with the physician’s role as healer.’ And although I understand not everyone shares my views, I am fundamentally and morally opposed to state law enabling someone, even under tragic and painful circumstances, to take their own life.” – Governor Carney
The fight is not over.
The bill sponsor is retiring from the legislature this year, after more than a decade of trying to legalize assisted suicide. However, a culture of death is still alive and well in our legislature. As we speak, there are legislators attempting to call a special session to override the Governor’s veto.
Elections matter – prayer matters – discipleship matters. Continue to pray that our legislators will come to understand that our shared love for human rights is dependent on a universal, uncompromising respect for the sanctity of human life.
